Volunteer Coordinator

SPCA of Anne Arundel County in Annapolis, MD 

Part time to full time 

Overview: The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is a compassionate organization dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming animals in need. We are seeking a dynamic and organized Volunteer Coordinator to manage our volunteer program and ensure volunteers are engaged, motivated and effectively supporting the shelter’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Program Management

Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer program, including recruitment, training, orientation, and ongoing support.

Maintain a current and accurate database of volunteer information, including availability, skills and preferences.

Schedule and coordinate volunteer shirts, ensuring coverage for the shelter’s activities and events.

Monitor volunteer performance, provide feedback, recognition and address any issues that may arise.

Volunteer Recruitment and Retention

Create and distribute volunteer recruitment materials, including flyers, social media and website content.

Conduct outreach to local community groups, schools and businesses to promote volunteer opportunities.

Organize and lead volunteer orientations and training sessions to ensure volunteers are well prepared and knowledgeable about shelter policies.

Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages volunteer retention and satisfaction..

Event Planning and Coordination

Plan and coordinate volunteer participation in shelter events, including fundraisers, adoption events, vaccine clinics, outreach and other programs.

Work with staff to identify volunteer needs for special projects and events.

Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions through events, awards and other recognition efforts.

Communication and Collaboration

Serve as main point of contact for all volunteer related inquiries and communications.

Collaborate with shelter staff to identify areas where volunteers can provide support and enhance shelter operations.

Regularly communicate with volunteers to keep them informed about shelter activities, events and new opportunities.

Administrative Duties

Track volunteer hours and generate reports to assess the impact of volunteer program.

Assist in preparing and managing the volunteer budget.

Ensure that all volunteer activities comply with shelter policies, procedures, safety guidelines and shelter mission.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; degree in nonprofit management, human resources or related fields preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in volunteer management, nonprofit work or animal welfare highly desirable.

Skills

Excellent interpersonal and time management abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer management software

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

Passion for animal welfare and our shelter’s mission.

Working Conditions

Primarily office based, with outdoor and off site event participation.

Some evenings will be required and weekends as well, especially during peak event times.

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience ($15 to $20 per hour)
